The surface water mobilization study will contribute in the medium term to economic growth and poverty reduction. The sectoral objective of the study is to ensure in the long term a balanced exploitation of surface and groundwater, so as to guarantee the sustainable satisfaction of the various needs.
More specifically, the objective of the study is to define a future intervention program, focused on the construction of check dams, in order to allow the development of irrigated agricultural activities and to ensure the preservation of the natural environment by reducing the pressure on the groundwater. This study is part of the overall efforts undertaken by the Cabo Verde in terms of adaptation to climate change. It is also part of the Government's efforts to promote the development of irrigated agricultural land and to limit the exodus of populations to urban centers.
The first phase of the preliminary study will last 4 months and will consist in carrying out a preliminary technical study of the 21 sites identified in the watersheds. At the end of this study, the list of a maximum of ten identified sites will be validated
The second phase will consist in the realization of preliminary design studies on the 10 priority sites to confirm their feasibility on all required aspects. At the end of the Preliminary project studies, which will last 4 months, a maximum of five efficient sites will be selected that present immediate financing opportunities
The third phase is the study of the preliminary designs and the preparation of the tender documents for the five sites selected in the second phase. The PDA studies on these five sites will allow, from extensive field investigations, to define the precise characteristics of the dams and the various associated hydro-agricultural facilities. The CAD will allow the preparation of the tender notice for the construction of the dams on the five sites studied
