This project is part of the Urban Resilience Project in Sierra Leone The purpose of this ESIA study is to help make the project sound and sustainable from an environmental and social point of view and to ensure compliance with Sierra Leone legislation and the World Bank's environmental requirements and guidelines. environment, health and safety (EHS).
This will concern a new landfill which will serve more than 1.5 million people and will be of the bioreactor type with a lifespan of 25 years. It will also have a leachate collection, storage and treatment facility as well as biogas capture and recovery for electricity production.
Identify and assess the environmental and social impacts and risks that may result from the development of the proposed project during the construction, operation and closure phases
Identify and integrate in the design, construction, operation and dismantling of the project, specifications, measures and/or alternatives to avoid or mitigate negative impacts and enhance beneficial impacts; the environmental and social management plan (ESMP), including its monitoring plan, will verify the effectiveness of these measures;
Define the institutional responsibilities and modalities for implementing mitigation and monitoring measures throughout the life of the project;
Ensure public disclosure/information and consultation throughout the project ESIA process
